Lakeside has kept it’s small town appeal offers the basic in amenities, but having access to Flathead Lake and Blacktail Mountain affords the outdoor enthusist the opportunity to take advantage of all aspects of outdoor activities.  There are two public accesses to Flathead Lake all within a short distance of the other allowing you the ability to launch your boat with ease.  You can water ski until you can’t stand up any longer or sail in any of the numerous sailing regattas that take place on a regular basis.  There is also some great fishing for huge lake trout that you can go after yourself, or hire some of the best fishing guides around.  Flathead Lake is nearly 30 miles long and 16 miles wide.  There are a number of places to stop along the lake for your favorite beverages and nice meals, snacks, and fuel.  You could spend the entire day on the lake with ease and not stay in the same area for more than a few minutes. 

Blacktail Mountain offers in addition to it’s skiing, numerous areas for some outstanding mountain biking or hiking through some gorgeous terrain.  You can search www.blacktailmountain.com for a map of the numerous trails.  As I stated before, about 14 miles up Blacktail Mountain you will find some very outstanding skiing and snowboarding.  It is 1440 feet of vertical elevation at the base and 6676 feet of elevation at the top.  The longest run is 1.75 miles long.  The average annual snow fall is 250 feet and the average daily snowfall is 1.6 inches of all natural (no machines) snow.  The terrain offers areas for the beginner as well as the advanced skier.  The mountain is open typically December 9th through mid April.  Bring your skis or snowboard and some warm clothes and prepare yourself to experience some winter fun on the finely groomed trails that are available for skiers and snowboarders alike.
